Food Intolerances

Countless individuals suffer when they eat. Food intolerances can cause people to experience an increase in arthritic pain, headaches, a constant state of discomfort, or feeling bloated from the moment they wake up to the time they go to bed. Food that should be nourishing to the body and meant to be enjoyed and eaten, becomes an enemy and causes inflammation

Food Allergies vs. Intolerances:
Food Allergies:

  • Immediate reaction with external or internal contact
  • Life threatening
  • Typical symptoms: rash, hives and skin
    changes, difficulty with breathing, red eyes,
    lowering of blood pressure
  • Typically determined by skin prick test

Food Intolerances:

  • Delayed reaction to a ‘problem’ food
  • Response time can be 2 - 96 hours
  • Can affect any organ or system
  • Multiple foods may be involved

The American Academy of Allergy reports that unrecognized food allergies are responsible for 60% of all the symptoms that doctors are consulted for that are not diagnosed or treated.

The sensitivities are difficult to uncover because they are delayed and cause reactions that run the gamut from uncomfortable to debilitating. Over the years, they can have a cumulative inflammatory effect that can cause chronic diseases and even shorten your lifespan.

This impact that food has on people has been demonstrated time and time again. I have seen cases similar to the following many times over. A patient of mine was constantly bloated. She woke up bloated and went to sleep bloated with no relief through the day for six years. The offending foods can be detected through an elimination diet or a blood test. A food intolerance test revealed a sensitivities to bananas, apples and almonds – her daily breakfast staples.

What do I do once I have detected them?

  • Eliminating the foods that cause inflammation in your bodies.
  • Restoring your natural digestive environment by eating fiber, supplementing with probiotics/good bacteria and drinking an adequate amount of water
  • Rotate the foods you diet – have a specific food once in 4 days
