An annual event, the fourth Borneo International Marathon (BIM) will be held on Sunday 1st May 2011. Jointly organized by Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort and Spa, Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort and Championship Sports Events Sdn. Bhd, BIM has positioned itself as a calendar highlight amongst marathoners in South East Asia.

Registrations for BIM 2011 commenced on 8th October 2010 to allow participants the opportunity to schedule their travels plan ahead of time. Dubbed ‘The Beautiful Run’, the marathon passes through the city and many of Kota Kinabalu’s interesting tourist sights. Runners will have the opportunity to participate in a Full Marathon (42.2KM), Half Marathon (21.1KM) and 10KM.

BIM also has strong commitment to helping charitable causes and has raised more than RM92,000 for local charities since its inaugural event in 2008. The targeted fund raising amount for 2011 is RM100,000 which will be generated through 3 ways:

a) 10% of all entry fees

b) a flat entry amount of RM200 applies for any of the 3 events, whereby the amount minus the normal entry fees is contributed to charity

c) The “Sky’s The Limit” category, whereby any runner will try to raise as much money as possible through their friends and families to support their effort.

As an added incentive, the top three fund-raising champions will be rewarded attractive prizes featuring holiday packages in Sabah.
