Michele Yong

L&S: Please describe yourself in 5 words:
MY: Straight-forward, adventurous, driven, single and complicated :D

L&S: What do you enjoy most about your occupation?
MY: I really like being surrounded by creative people because it drives and inspires me to constantly create new things. I also love fashion and the constant change in trends so being a fashion photographer I'm able to work with many fantastic designers, models, creative teams and so on. My work often brings a different experience so I can never get bored doing this, which I think is very important.

L&S: Most memorable shoot:
MY: I was shooting on train tracks in Singapore and thought it was an inactive line, but in the middle of it my team and I heard some rumbling and a freight train was coming close! We quickly scurried to collect all our equipment and managed to run off the tracks just before it hit us. Naturally the train operators weren't too pleased but I would definitely never forget that traumatic experience. Actually a reporter from the Singapore Straits Times picked up on the story and wrote something about it but then again it isn't exactly an accomplishment that I am proud of!

L&S: 5 tracks currently playing on your iPod:
MY: I don't actually have an iPod or any other music player (anybody want to buy me one?) but currently my top played songs on iTunes are Röyksopp - 49 Percent, Daniel Bowie & Roy Rox - Love Me, Mei Lwun & Gina Rene - Too Late, Heartsrevolution - Dance Till Dawn, Lamb - What Sound

L&S: A peek into your fridge would reveal:
MY: I love to cook and eat so on a good month I'll be fully stocked with everything from a variety of cheeses, meats, vegetables and carbs all the way to my liquor shelf. I cook a lot of international dishes so I always have dairy products and herbs. On a bad month it would be absolutely bare and empty so it can be quite a contrast but I will always have cheese and liquor no matter what.

L&S: A celebrity you would most like to work with, and why?
MY: There are many great new celebrities and models in the industry now but I still like Kate Moss because her look can translate differently in so many images. She has this awkwardness that really draws me. Many people may find her overrated or old school, but no doubt she's still a great model with style.

L&S: Who are some of your favourite photographers?
MY: It's hard to pinpoint my favourite because there are way too many but I particularly like the work of Georges Antoni, Nicoline Patricia Malina and Steven Meisel.

L&S: What would you like people to know about you?
MY: I have this ongoing dream to live and work as a fashion photographer in Europe so if anybody is able to help me out with that, please do! And also, I'm really not as scary or intimidating as some people may think of me at first impression. Honest.

L&S: If you weren’t in your current profession what would you be doing instead?
MY: I would still be doing something in the creative line, probably as a fashion stylist, makeup artist or music producer. I actually did the interior decorating, branding and web design for the new Hotel Eden54 in Kota Kinabalu so that's something most people never knew I could do.

L&S: Lastly, Michele Yong is:
MY: Very excited for her upcoming 5-week trip to Paris and wishes it would come sooner!
