Greens for Smoothies

Why are green juices & smoothies
good for you?

The power of green juice is in its ability to cleanse the digestive system & make you feel more aware of what you are then putting into your body. Green juice makes you feel alive as soon as you drink it. Why? Because it contains rich natural sources of vitamins & minerals that are able to enter your system & start rejuvenating & detoxifying your body as soon as it hits your stomach.

Green smoothies provide the goodness of green juice, but with all the essential fiber that juicing leaves behind - great for filling up and it promotes good digestion.

Good greens to use in smoothies

Wherever possible always use organic leaves. It may seem more expensive - but leaves are like sponges, designed to absorb any moisture that comes into contact with it. Therefore pesticides & chemicals used by farmers are soaked right into the leaves & are locked inside the plant.

Chemicals & pesticides taste bad and don't do our insides any good either.

Spinach

Great to use as it is really high in nutrients like protein, calcium, iron, vitamin K, A, B2, B6, E, potassium, folate - & doesn't have a strong taste eaten raw.

Kale - 'The king of the greens'

Super rich in vitamin K, A & C, manganese - & a great source of copper, tryptophan, calcium, vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), potassium, iron, magnesium, vitamin E, omega 3 fatty acids, vitamin B2 (riboflavin), protein, vitamin B1 (thiamin), folate, phosphorus, vitamin B3 (niacin)

Romaine

This lettuce is great to use as it is so nutrient rich - you have to play around with flavours and see what you like best. I found this to have a stronger taste than spinach - so add stronger tasting fruits if I want it to taste sweet.

Romaine is rich in many minerals such as vitamin K, A, C, folate, manganese, chromium, potassium, molybdenum, B1, iron, B2, phosphorus, calcium, omega 3 fatty acids, tryptophan, B3, B6.

Rocket/ Arugula

This peppery little leaf is really lovely in salads and can also be great in smoothies. Be aware of its peppery nature and add other ingredients to create something you love.

Parsley

There are many uses for this kitsch herb. Great vitamin C source, removes garlic breath and is ideal for use in smoothies. Excellent source of vitamin A, C, folate, B1, B2 & potassium, miolybdenum, iron & phosphorus.
