Many of the city’s hip and stylish thronged the happening side-street off Jalan Bukit Bintang and joined fashion creator Bernard Chandran in the launch of his latest project, aptly known as Area27. It was a hip invasion of all sorts from pop culture, art, music to fashion that defies boundaries. Jetting off with a great amount of fanfare the street party started when 3RUNmy launched their explosive free running energetic daredevil parkour stunts. Leaving the crowd gasping in awe, Bernard Chandran turned up in style in a Proton Satria Neo, Malaysia’s most iconic car to date. As the crowd cheered on, Chandran nonchalantly splashed paint over the car, transforming it into an art piece. He was then joined by renowned graffiti artist Bob from Kioue Super Sunday in unlocking a festival of street art in the open. The crowd was also treated to a colourful street fashion show by Andrew Models. Hot models strutted down the street, showing off some of the coolest attire by Area27. The heat of the party also turned several notches hotter when DJ Arnold greeted fans spun some of the coolest music, with Melbourne 2008 champion beatboxer Shazet. Celebrity emcees Xandria Ooi and Will Quah cheered on and played the perfect hosts for the afternoon. For many fans, the adrenalin pumping event was also a celebrity spotting ground. Seen partying in style were the Sharifah sisters including Aleya, Amani, Aleysha and Aryana, actor Jehan Miskin, celebrity blogger Joyce Wong, Age of Glory Chinese drama fame, Debbie Goh, renowned violinist Dennis Lau, singing sensation, Melissa Indot, Deborah Henry, Jehan Miskin, Joanne Rozario, Yuri Wong, Alvin Wong, and many others. Area27 is just not about fashion, it is also about personal style, the way one identifies with his/her own style. The fashion creator has always wanted to start something inspirational for the younger generation. It is his wish to leave a legacy apart from fashion, to inspire young Malaysians to appreciate the local arts and pop culture. Area27 has a hangout area for budding musicians who wants to show their craft and an area for young local artists and photographers to display their works. “In fact, Malaysia’s fashion history would never be the same again when we see youth becoming an emerging fashion voice. The fashionable new generation will soon knock their predecessors off their pedestals with the arrival of the youth culture!” said Dato’ Bernard Chandran. Area 27 is located at Lot D3, Basement Floor (Street level) Block D, Fahrenheit 88, 179, Jalan Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur. |
