We interview Fiona Hollis, founder of I Love Raw a website that offers insight, tips and recipes on eating raw. Fiona is also a regular contributor to our Health & Wellness channel here on LifeAndStyle.com.my.

Fiona doesn’t claim to be 100% raw but believes that supplementing yours and your family’s diet with raw food is only going to be a good thing. It’s all about knowing how to create fast, fun and good things to eat.

L&S: What got you interested in raw foods?
FH: Up until Christmas 2007, my favourite meals were steak & fries (rare) with a glass of red wine, any kind of fried chicken, chicken & rice & lasagne. Life without meat looked ugly.

A friend & I did a week long colon cleanse, having to drink sachets of powdered clay & cilium husk, which sticks to the impacted food in your colon & pulls it out as it passes through. I realised how much food stays trapped within our bodies, & as it is released, so too are emotions. After a week of seeing my meat eating days leave the building I was less keen to put meat back into my body. When I did eat meat I felt the old sensations of a heavy full stomach & general sluggish digestion.

Raw food is something I had heard of but had not grabbed my attention. It was Christmas 2008 that I found myself at the doctors saying they would remove 3/4 of my thyroid and that I would be on pills the rest of my life. Determined not to rely on medication, I ‘Googled’ alternative therapies to regulate my thyroxine levels.

I found two members of online community, ‘Give it to me raw’ in a similar position. They advised drinking greens juices & eating raw cruciferous greens. I managed to heal myself - but not purely with raw food. Raw food boosted my endocrine system. It allowed me to experience all the blocked emotions that as a last ditch attempt had manifested as a physical ailment. My thyroid was swollen, I was in agony, my body was frantically waving a big red flag at me. I got the message!

L&S: What gets you motivated in the morning?
FH: My list of things to do motivates me in the morning! I am a big believer in list making. I get very excited crossing things off my lists.

L&S: Biggest source of inspiration?
FH: My son & my partner are big inspirations in my life - but there have been some amazing people I have met in my journey so far. Everyone you meet has something to teach you.

L&S: If you could have a meal with any celebrity, living or deceased:
FH: It would easily be Michael Jackson. We’d be in the jungle having a picnic, lots of tropical birds, monkeys & waterfalls. I have been a huge fan since I first saw him on TV when I was 6. He was my best friend and imaginary confident. I’d talk to him about all those deep emotions that created the Michael that caused him so much depression as an adult. I’d probably ask him to show me some moves too ;)

L&S: How would you describe yourself in 5 words?
FH: Sensitive, fun, passionate, creative, inquisitive.

L&S: What talent would you most like to have?

FH: I would love to be a really clear medium so I could connect to the spirit world & talk to people beyond the physical.

L&S: A peek in your fridge would reveal...
FH: That I am a fan of sun dried tomatoes and that I don’t really plan my meals – they sort of create themselves.

L&S: Current iPod/Mp3player playlist?

FH: ‘You Know You Want it’ - Pitbull,
‘Day & Nite’- Kid Cudi,
‘Black & Gold’- Sam Sparro,
‘Bonker’s’ - Dizzee Rascal
‘I Am the Black Gold of The Sun’- Jocelyn Brown
‘Earth Song’ - Michael Jackson

L&S: Fiona Hollis is....
FH: running Green Power Smoothie workshops in schools
- and I love it. Kids are so experimental and excited about
eating fruits and greens in new ways. We have lots of fun
learning about vitamins and anti oxidants.
