STYLO Fashion Grand Prix KL 2011 returns once again this April in the run-up to the 13th Petronas Malaysia Formula 1 Grand Prix and will take place throughout the capital city over 8 days from April 3rd to 10th.

Presented by Mercedes-Benz, and partnering Sepang International Circuit and the Ford Models Supermodel of the World Search, Malaysia 2011, this year’s festival themed “Fashion Theatre” will be held in three different locations, one of which is a secret location housed at a post World War II building within an older part of Kuala Lumpur.

At the press conference yesterday, STYLO International President and Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Nancy Yeoh, said: “STYLO is a kaleidoscope of fashion entertainment, and it will be a celebration for all in ensuring that the same F1 enthusiasts are kept equally engaged by the breakthrough of high fashion. This festival is our stamp of an iconic lifestyle experience.”

This year, the festival’s curtains go up with the unveiling of the inaugural STYLO Fashion Ball. An evening for the “be seen” to be seen, it is touted to be the ball of the year with supermodels, fashionistas, socialites and F1 drivers expected to grace the red carpet.

A post World War II building in an undisclosed secret location within a highly characteristic and older part of KL will be transformed into “The Scarlet Theatre’ to host STYLO’s most glamorous galas such as the Mercedes-Benz STYLO Fashion Awards, Visa’s theatrical Aladdin’s Harem Gala, Ministry of Tourism’s Glass Slipper Gala and STYLO’s grand opening Fashion Ball, featuring the finalists of the Ford Models Supermodel of the World Search Malaysia 2011.

Also, featuring in the calendar this year are the Ministry of Tourism’s International Shoe Festival gala, the Malaysian debut of international fashion brand F&F, and one of London Fashion Week’s emerging designers Ara Jo who has designed for Lady Gaga, Jamelia and Leona Lewis to name a few.

In keeping in line with its CSR initiative, this year’s festival will also feature key messages for preservation of the environment. One of the most vivid highlight will be the Emerging Designers Competition featuring a green theme “Paper Dress” where the decadence of mankind will be translated into fashion collections using recycled and biodegradable paper and fabric.

Taking to the runway are fashion bodies MODA (Malaysian Official Designers Association), BDA (Bumiputra Designers Association), YODA (Young Designers Arena), and IFF (Islamic Fashion Festival) as well as independent Malaysian designers kicking things off on April 3rd at the Scarlet Theatre and concluding at the Sepang International Circuit for the Ford Models Supermodel of the World Search Malaysia 2011 Finals on April 10th – prior to the opening act for Korean superstar Rain during the F1 concert.

Created originally as part of the 10th anniversary of F1 KL as a key event to ignite excitement on the back of the world-class international motorsport event, F1 motor-racing, STYLO creates the much needed social prelude to the big race, uniting the presence of the world media and high net-worth devotees of the F1.
