Remote but accessible aptly describes the Thai island of Kood, on which Soneva Kiri is set amidst the lush tropical rainforest, off the south-east coast of the Gulf of Siam. THE EXPERIENCE & ACCOMMODATIONInternational guests are personally met on arrival at Bangkok’s airport and transferred to the resort’s own airplane for the one-hour flight to the Soneva Kiri airfield. From the air, the beauty of untouched Thailand and Koh Kood, with its white sandy beaches is immediately evident. Upon landing, guests are greeted by their Mr. or Ms. Friday - who will be on hand during the entire stay – and escorted on the five-minute Aquasense power-boat crossing from the airfield. Upon stepping ashore and receiving a warm welcome, a short electric buggy ride brings guests to the oversized pool villa, which is a testament to environmental responsiveness and intelligent luxury. The buggy is a private discovery vehicle during the guest’s stay. There is also a self-sustaining Eco Villa for those wishing to be on the cutting edge of innovation and the Six Senses Evalution Programme. DINING OPTIONSIt would be an understatement to say that dining choices are diverse. Under the direction of the resort’s Executive Chef, a dearth of culinary delights makes the main restaurant area a delightfully interactive food and drinks experience. Original dining takes shape with multiple options such as The Dining Room which offers Thai-style kantoke seating augmented with relaxed day beds. Ever Soneva So Spirited is perched on a cliff top and provides the ideal setting for pre-dinner drinks paired with unbeatable sunset views. Tucked to one side is the ice-cream parlour - Ever Soneva So Chilled - featuring a wall of more than sixty flavours of homemade sorbet, gelato and ice-cream at any one time. The adjoining chocolate room Ever Soneva So Chocoholic and the gourmet room Ever Soneva So Deli-cious, offering the finest cold cuts and cheeses around, complete the indulgence. However, Tree Pod Dining could be the most innovative dining aloft since in-flight silver service was introduced at 35,000 feet, half a century ago. Although in this case the dining is just 16 feet, or around 5 metres, off terra firma. The Dining Pod, engineered with a rigid frame swathed in woven rattan, is not unlike a cocoon with an open panorama window. Up to four diners board the pod, and are then elevated to the lofty height by a system of safety winches. Food courses arrive courtesy of a flying waiter – harnessed to a zip line – as do beverage replenishments. However, unlike the other form of first class dining aloft, this experience enjoys the ultimate exclusivity, and very little turbulence. |

NO NEWS NO SHOES
Soneva Kiri is relaxed and casual. The all-year-round, comfortable, tropical temperature requires only light and natural fabrics so Polo-style shirts, summer dresses and sarongs are ideal. Shoes are not practical on the soft sand or on the paths, so bring sandals or simply enjoy barefoot freedom. Laundry service is offered, but there is no dry cleaning. SIX SENSES SPA
A Six Senses Spa is one of the most important aspects within a resort. A team of highly skilled international and Thai therapists take guests on sensory journeys with Six Senses’ a la carte and local treatments for balancing the senses. Visiting practitioners bring unique talents to the spa to enlighten and inform guests. A little luxurious pampering never goes amiss and is on hand to complete the total relaxation experience. Shopping therapy is available at the cluster of boutiques that make up the retail village. Soneva Kiri by Six Senses Images: © Six Senses Resort & Spa |
