Montblanc Meisterstück's Silent Auction

E-mail Print

Established 1906, Montblanc has successfully grown from a manufacturer of exclusive writing instruments into a diversified brand of luxurious writing instruments, watches, leather, jewellery and eyewear. Montblanc’s range of exclusive products is available in more than 350 Montblanc boutiques and selected jewellery stores and authorized retailers all over the world.

The brand's commitment to creating unique works of master craftsmanship and style is symbolized by the famous white star, which refers to the snow-covered peak of the highest mountain in Europe. It’s one of the world's best known trademarks - not only signifying the brand and its products of long lasting nature. It also characterises the demanding and cultural lifestyle of the Montblanc customer. Montblanc is a brand of timeless luxury products, which contain more than a functional beauty – they provide origin, continuity, individually and emotion. They are a symbol and expression for a modern, intelligent and successful personality, appreciating products of discrete elegance and timeless aesthetics.

Recently, Montblanc returned to cooperate with UNICEF to promote increased literacy among children, with the launch of the Montblanc Meisterstück ‘Signature for Good’ Special Edition, a unique collection of writing instruments, jewellery and accessories, created especially for this charity initiative with the overall aim of raising at least US$ 1.5 million globally for UNICEF.

The launch also saw the unveiling of five beautiful art pieces by five prominent ladies namely Ruth Yeoh, Director of Investments, YTL Corporation Berhad, Datin Seri Tiara Jacquelina, actress and producer of the famed Puteri Gunung Ledang (PGL) and P. Ramlee musicals, Datuk Bridget Lai, Group Chief Executive Officer Alliance Bank Malaysia Berhad & Director, Alliance Financial Group Berhad, Datin Natasha Hudson, local actress and model, and Datin Hafizah Zakaria, homemaker and mother of 6, for the silent auction that will take place from July to December 2009.

The art pieces, hand painted personally by the ladies, are fruits of a special collaboration between the ladies and Montblanc, locally organised to support education and literacy programmes for the under- privileged children by UNICEF Malaysia.

The ladies were given the task to put their expression on art pieces under the theme “Why education is important to children”. Each art piece is complemented with a Meisterstück ‘Signature for Good’ Special Edition writing instrument contributed by Montblanc. The opening bid for each art piece starts from RM10, 000, where all proceeds from the auction will go to UNICEF Malaysia. The art pieces will be exhibited at both the Montblanc boutiques at Pavilion KL and Suria KLCC. For those interested in the art pieces, they can place their bids at any of the Montblanc boutiques in Malaysia.

This initiative happens at a significant milestone as Montblanc is celebrating the 85th anniversary of the legendary Montblanc Meisterstück, which has since become one of the world’s most iconic writing instruments. Hence, the Meisterstück ‘Signature for Good’ Special Edition marks a precious and lovingly enhanced version of the iconic Montblanc Meisterstück and will be a great collectible and a classic for generations of owners.

Since its introduction in 1924, the Montblanc Meisterstück soon became an icon for pure writing culture and remains, to this day, the preferred writing instrument for royalties and other distinguished personalities. The Museum of Modern Art in New York even paid homage by recognising the Meisterstück 149 as a design classic and the pen has since become a permanent display of the reputed Museum.

The Montblanc Meisterstück was selected as it is synonymous with achievement and authority, sophistication and culture, imagination and intellect, and it symbolizes timeless aesthetics and outstanding craftsmanship.

Previous Montblanc charity initiaives for UNICEF include the ‘Power to Write‘ campaign in 2007 and ‘Sign Up for the Right to Write‘ campaign in 2005.
