Dorian Ho - Collection Spring Summer 2010

E-mail Print

Think Chic nomads on a caravan to some distant and exotic land. A group of beautifully clad women adorned with rubies, emerald, pearls and uncut diamond in a courtyard of a Turkish palace. Dorian Ho’s theme for Spring Summer 2010 draws heavily on the art and architecture of Central Asia.

Through the Silk Road and ancient Persian land, these exotic lands evoke mystical splendour and style.

This Spring collection is filled with exuberance, drama, extravagance, wallowed in shapes and incongruity of style. The full excitement of subtle fabrics in satin, Thai dyed chiffon, organza, crepe de chine, taffeta and embroidery, rendered in fine hand beading crystals, with Crystallized™ - Swarovski Elements in assorted shape and colors.

Interpreting the mood for the evening, the use of brilliant colors such as lapis, sepia, hyacinth and garnet often juxtapose different shades to enhance the effect. Shapes become free and fabric lighter creating a billowy effect. There are draped dresses, structured shoulder, ruched bodice and asymmetric neckline.

To compensate for the length and volume, Dorian Ho utilizes transparency to add an element of sexual allure.

To match with the theme of the S/S 2010 collection, Dorian has designed a jewellery collection with the collaboration of a well established Indian jewellery manufacturer. The designs include rose cut diamonds, rubies, emeralds and pearls blending exotic with the antique elements.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER
He is Dorian Ho, whose young eponymous label is sold in Lane Crawford in Hong Kong, Barneys Japan in Tokyo and Saks Fifth Avenue in New York among other leading retail destinations.

Created in 2001 by the Boston University marketing graduate, the Dorian Ho Collection made its international debut on both sides of the globe that year, at the Mercedes Australian Fashion
Week in Sydney and at New York’s Seventh on Sixth.

Eschewing the position and power that is his birthright had he taken over the family firm —which manufactures for global brands such as Donna Karan and Calvin Klein — Ho chose instead to intern, at Australian label Country Road upon his return to Hong Kong, before creating his own Doriano label for China in 1993.

He sold it 10 years later to raise the capital for his high-octane Dorian Ho evening collection for the bewitching hours after the sun sets.

In response to the overwhelming acknowledgment from the fans, he launched his bridal gown collection in November 2005 as well as opening his first wedding concept store – Dorian Ho Wedding – marking an important milestone on his fashion career.

In November 2006, he was awarded “Outstanding Designer” at the Moët & Chandon's Tribute to Asian Fashion Designers and in 2007, he received the “ Recognition Award” at 2007’s Bangkok International Fashion Week.
