Loewe Cherry Blossom

E-mail Print

Loewe introduces Cherry Blossom, a limited-edition collection of leather goods launched to coincide with the cherry trees coming into bloom: an emblem of love, an omen of good fortune and a celebration of the start of Spring.

The pieces combine a romantic aesthetic with graphic and modern interpretations of the flower. The collection is comprised of five pieces, three bags, a zip-around purse and a bag charm. The colour palette reflects the cherry blossom’s quintessential femininity with soft, greyed off, pastel shades named Bud and Powder, with highlights of fuchsia.

Creative director Stuart Vevers was inspired by a trip to the Kiyomizu temple in Kyoto at the height of cherry blossom season. "I’d actually wanted to work around the idea of cherry blossom for some time. I’ve visited Japan many times and it’s always fun when a trip corresponds with cherry blossom season, but I hadn’t been able to find an idea that felt right for Loewe. Once we hit on the idea of focusing on modern leather craft, the collection came together easily."

When initially researching the concept back in Madrid, an archive-cutting tool with a floral silhouette was discovered in Loewe’s leather-goods atelier. The tool became the starting point of the collection and was scaled up to give the flower motif a sharper feel.
